How Do I Choose a Physical Therapist?
All Physical Therapist are required to have passed a State Exam given by the State Board of Physical Therapy and be licensed to practice Physical Therapy in that state. PT’s also must meet the educational requirements (currently a Master’s level degree in Physical Therapy) prior to taking that exam and are required to achieve 30 contact hours every 2 years from courses approved from the NJ State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners. These continuing education courses ensure that the patients are receiving the most up-to-date treatment possible.
You can find a Physical Therapist through recommendation from your Physician, family, friends, or the insurance company. One of the factors that you may consider is selecting a Physical Therapist who is member of the American Physical Therapy Association. These Physical Therapists are bound by the Association’s code of Ethics and are especially committed to providing competent and compassionate care.
